"Spirit On The Wind" lyrics - ROGER COOK

ROGER COOK
"Spirit On The Wind"

There's a spirit on the wind, I hear it again and again
It's a spirit from old, a boy who was searching for gold

Everett Ruess was his name, a boy driven by un-common goals
Full of adventure he couldn't tame, It was deep within his soul

He roamed the west chasing his dreams, a vagabond for beauty they say
He loved the canyons and the desert sky, nature's bold display

Followed his heart into the wildest places, put his life out on a limb
That was where he felt alive, wilderness was life for him [2x]

There's a spirit on the wind, I hear it again and again
It's a spirit from old, a boy who was searching for gold

Travelled alone even though he was young, burro and dog by his side
Climbed the most precipitous routes, where ancient ruins hide

Never got his fill of desert scapes, returned year after year
But when he headed off into the Escalante, he forever disappeared

His spirit lives on in many a mind, those who've found beauty on their own
In desert canyons with turquoise sky, many spirits have flown [2x]

There's a spirit on the wind, I hear it again and again
It's a spirit from old, a boy who was searching for gold
